Paul enlisted in the Navy Nuclear Power Program in
September 1962.  After graduating from a Navy trade school and serving on a diesel submarine for 6 months, he attended 6 months of nuclear power theory school in Mare Island, CA and then 6 months qualifying at a nuclear power submarine prototype in
Windsor Lochs, CN.  He was then selected to serve as an instructor on staff at the prototype for the following three years.

In 1967, the Navy selected Paul for the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program and sent him to Purdue University for four years.  While there Paul earned dual degrees: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and Master's in Nuclear Engineering.  Commissioned in the U.S. Navy and selected as an Engineering Duty Officer, he served on a Cruiser, then at Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, SC, then at US Naval Ship Repair Facility, Yokosuka Japan, and finally at Ingalls Shipbuilding,
Pascagoula, MS. 

Retiring from the Navy after 20 years, he spent a couple of years in industrial sales in MS, before moving to Fairfax, VA where he spent the next 27 years and worked as a consultant to the Navy. 

Paul retired from his Navy consulting job on September 27, 2012.
